Music from Crystal Shawanda
JUNO award winning artist Crystal Shawanda gives us a glimpse of her life since COVID-19 and performs “Bigger Than the Blues" from her album Church House Blues.
Crystal says the song deals with depression and mental health.
"It was inspired by conversations that I had with Dewayne [her husband] after we learned of a recent suicide of a musician that we both knew. It triggered memories of family members and friends who had taken their own lives. I later said I wish we could write a song about all this, to write a blues song literally about the blues, almost in hopes that if someone who was on the edge heard it, they would change their mind and reassess their situation. It would be my attempt at convincing them that they are indeed bigger than the blues, and things are gonna be okay."
